The flash drive uses XTS cipher mode and also uses elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) algorithms to meet Suite B standards approved by the U.S. government. It supports hardware-based 256-bit AES-XTS and Suite B cryptography, including ECC. Suite B algorithms were specifically selected and approved by the U.S. government and the Department of Defense for use in multinational data sharing environments including both classified and unclassified applications.

FIPS 140-2 certification requires a validation process that meets federal requirements set by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This is critical because many governmental agencies in the United States mandate that sensitive “data at rest” (i.e., all information not in the network) must be encrypted with the FIPS 140-2 standard. Level 2 means the DataTraveler 5000 has a tamper-evident construction which acts to notify any users if their drive has been tampered with. It also has a power-on self test that verifies the encryption mechanism is running properly each time the drive is plugged into a USB port.

But it still seems odd that ck Calvin Klein would decide that what the world wants right now is a 4GB USB data storage device built into a pair of designer sunglasses.

Simply pull off the detachable arm and you’re ready to store music, photos or data. Is this a great idea or a desperate attempt to add some technological relevance to fashion? We’ll leave that for you to decide but would like to point out that, given the frequency with which we misplace sunglasses, this could just be a convenient way to lose two things at once.

I used to try to carry a flash drive with me when I had a real job and actually left the house on occasion. More often than not, I left it at home because I forgot to pick it up and put it in my pocket. A company called TopTech Products has announced a new flash drive that is shaped like a credit card and appears thin enough to not be a pain in the rear when sitting. The drive measures 3.4-inches x 2.1-inches x 0.11-inches.

It has 4GB of storage space and supports Linux, Windows, and Mac computers with USB 2.0 or 1.1 ports available. Several colors are available including clear, gray, orange, red, and blue. Businesses wanting to give them away as promotional items can get custom logos on the drives as well. Consumers can buy the drive on Amazon for $24.99.

USB memory devices are convenient for carrying information from the office to the home, but they can be lost or stolen during transit, or data stored on the devices can be leaked via a file-sharing network when viewed from personal PCs at home. So Fujitsu Laboratories has announced this secure USB memory device, where able automatically erase the data after a specified amount of time, or if the flash drive is plugged into an unregistered computer. The device also has come with file redirect technology that can prevent files on a USB flash drive from being saved to another computer, or uploaded to an unapproved server.

So far the device is haven’t release yet.
