Frustrated by the itchy that cause by mosquito bite? You maybe tired of using your hand to scratching your skin continuously. Why don’t using this electronic Itch Stopper instead? Simply apply the electronic Itch stopper on the part that is itching for about 20 seconds, the itch will be gone for the entire day!

The idea of an electronic Itch Stopper might seem a little crazy but there are indeed some people who need it because they are allergic to creams and gels which usually deal with itches. The device works by applying infrared heat directly on itching spot (insect bite usually) activating the thermal pain receptors in the upper skin layer and thus tricking the skin to “forget” about the itch. The itch, redness and swelling are reduced within seconds.

The Itch Stopper is scientifically proven does not cause DNA damage, or skin-cancer and is FDA approved for over the counter use. So it is safe to use. What’s more, this device is portable so you can bring it to anywhere.

From the designers ” we will lead ecological change by example. Healthcare packaging is usually made from oil and takes centuries to disappear. We would like to show people that very nice packaging can be made from other types of materials. We’ve made our outer packaging of corn resin and paper pulp. We do use some plastic to surround the pills, but we don’t want to and we are working to change this.”

Here has a good news for women in this world. A new device has been invented by Dr. David Watmough – the Breastlight where women can use it to monitor changes to their breasts over time – right from the comfort of their own home.

“The Breastlight has already helped at least one woman during trial. Dorothy McCormick, a former nurse, was one of the first women to try the device. The 57-year-old grandmother had initially gone to her doctor due to pain in her left breast. The doctor diagnosed it as mastitis, or inflammation of the breast tissue. Antibiotics were prescribed to her, but the pain persisted. She heard through a friend of the trials for the Breastlight and decided to try it out.

“In my left breast it showed up small dark areas which suggested there could be new blood vessels growing,” stated McCormick. She returned to her doctor and insisted on a mammogram and biopsy, which confirmed she had a 2cm tumor. Another patient was reportedly able to see her tumor receding as she went through treatment.

Development of the Breastlight was funded by a £2million (~$3 million USD) investment by PWB Health, a British firm. The company states that the Breastlight is intended to be used as part of an ongoing breast awareness routine, and aims to help women become more familiar with how their breasts look and feel. It is not intended to replace a clinical breast examination or mammogram, but instead serve as a “valuable personal aid that supports and encourages women to be breast aware”.

The Breastlight has been used by women in the United Kingdom since November 2008.
The company claims that results have been extremely favorable with women that have large or lumpy breasts who find self-examinations of their breasts difficult. Most have found that the device is easy to use and has become a part of their regular breast awareness routine. It gives them more confidence when they are checking their breasts, since many are unsure whether to report any lumps that they may find. “ from DailyTech.

I have been told that men also has the risk of having breast cancer, so someday I might need this too. I think it is better for me to check myself instead of let the nurses ‘grope’ around my breast, it kinda embarrassing.

We can’t deny CPR is one of the vital life saving technique. Indeed, I thought everybody should learn this skill, not just limited to certain professional people only. Survey show that Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the largest single killer of Americans accounting for more than 350,000 lives annually. Thus the more people learning CPR, the more life will be saved. However, by learning the CPR is not 100% can save life, because most people are only able to provide adequate compressions as the physical demands of exerting a 125lbs of force at a rate of 100 beats a minute reduces the rescuers effectiveness to 25% after the first minute. So the exist of LifeBelt is really important.

The LifeBelt , developed by Thomas Lach of Deca-Medics Inc, is a ” compact, lightweight device is designed to attach quickly, enabling a rescuer to start CPR in 15 seconds or less. An intuitive readout warns if the compression depth is too deep or shallow, giving the rescuer confidence that he or she is pushing properly.” which mean, a rescuer can do them for longer, increasing the likelihood of resuscitation.

This invention has won the $20,000 grand prize in the 2008 Create The Future Design Contest. Hope that this devices will eventually be a real product available to the public.

I think the possibilities is endless.

Recently, Professor Daniel Fletcher from UC Berkeley Bioengineering has modified an off-the-shelf camera cellphone to produce a mobile microscope capable of 50x magnification. The device is use for transmit patient data to medical center in the remote area where lack of modern diagnostic equipment.

“cell-phone microscopy will enable visualization of patient samples critical for disease diagnosis. Images captured by health workers on a microscope-equipped cell phone could be annotated, organized, and transmitted to medical experts at major medical centers for analysis and recommendation. Preliminary work has demonstrated the technical feasibility of this ‘telemicroscopy’ concept.”
