Mobile Internet Device (MID)

Actually smartphones are really act like a computer. But there are still some limitation to be a really computer. So designer Jan Rytir has come out with this Mobile Internet Device (MID) concept where the device is a computer in a cell phone size and able to make a phone call.

The device has a dimension of 180 x 80 x 20mm and come with an ultra wide LCD touchscreen that boasts of OLED technology, a 47 buttons QWERTY keyboard, a trackball and powered by an Intel Atom processor.

In order to make the device more like a computer, it also have two USB slots, a microphone, an audio input, an SD card reader, stereo speakers and a docking connector. However it is still in a concept stage, but I predict it will replace the smartphone one day. Who knows.

anything called internet device or smart phone is a gimmick. Long before the ds and touch screens on PDAs, this was the obvious conclusion. Ever since the gameboy came with a phone adapter, It was pretty obvious what form factor would eventually become the norm. Too bad early adopters keep giving manufacturers the wrong idea. Wide screen format, touch screen, voice recognition, GPS, accelerometers, stereo cameras and a host of productivity tools are all standard on ’smart phones’ The only thing I’m curious about is how the manufacturers are going to differentiate their products.

I predict that by the time 4G becomes a standardized implementation, there will be no smart phones or MIDS only micro PC architectures. The most important developments will be on the software side in terms of ui customization and theming. There’s nothing that a human likes more than being unique.
